To understand the impact of screen time on children, it's crucial to recognize how it affects their brain and body development. Children today are immersed in a virtual world that lacks four essential elements necessary for their growth and success:

Movement: Children need physical activity to develop motor coordination and spatial awareness, which are foundational for academic skills like writing, reading, math, and overall physical literacy.

Touch: Physical touch helps activate the parasympathetic nervous system, reducing adrenaline levels and promoting relaxation, rather than anxiety and agitation.

Human Connection: Interacting with others triggers the release of oxytocin, which fosters feelings of love and security, essential for emotional well-being.

Nature: Spending time outdoors boosts cognitive benefits and enhances mental health and emotional stability.

Studies have shown that excessive screen time can lead to detrimental effects on the brain, including gray matter atrophy, reduced cortical thickness, and impairments in memory, attention, impulse control, rational judgment, and critical thinking. Even moderate exposure to various forms of media—such as cartoons, video games, social media, and educational content—can negatively impact these crucial areas of brain function.

Additionally, while the safety of wireless radiation from devices remains uncertain, it’s prudent to minimize exposure to protect our health. Although the virtual world may seem appealing, its long-term impact on children is severe and potentially irreversible. To foster healthy relationships and achieve success and happiness, children must develop patience, self-regulation, and coping skills. Embracing a love for learning helps us appreciate our divine purpose and engage fully with the real world.
